Found this Lp in my parents collection as a kid and loved the historical ballads and grew into the rockabilly sounds. Thirty years later, "The Battle of New Orleans" sounds a bit corny, but I still love the album.

Johnny Horton - Greatest Hits

As a child my mother's Johnny Horton albums were my favorites to play over and over and over.

I was so thrilled to purchase this on CD so I can once again play it over and over. Sharing this music with friends who didn't "grow up country" has been fun. I miss story-songs. They are few and far between now.

If you like this album I also suggest Jimmy Dean, Frankie Laine, early Johnny Cash and George Jones.

Johnny Horton Makes History

I distinctly remember being introduced to Johnny Horton at the young age of 4. My dad had the album he'd bought back in 1960 for the whopping price of $2.35--and I could just kick myself for getting rid of it after my record player went the way of the dinosaurs. I hadn't heard any of the songs from this wonderful album since I was 13 or 14...and I remembered every word! Truly a timeless treasure belonging in the collection of any history buff!
