While working my way backwards through the catalog of E. Smith, the scale of his talent reached out to me more and more. I was deeply in love with this album from the first and it is truly Timeless and Classic (for indie fans.)
p.s. "desert island" disks are those that you would bring if you had to move to a remote desert island, and you could only bring, say, 5 albums.

Good Will Hunting: Music From The Miramax Motion Picture

I saw the movie on TV the other day and had to linger for a few moments in my busy day to sit down and soak it in again. I don't know why this film has the effect on me that it does - probably it's at least in part a longing for my old hometown - but the soundtrack has a lot to do with it. Elliott Smith's catalog was for many years a tough nut to crack, maybe because the lyrics were just so over-the-top depressing that they initially scared me away. This soundtrack provided my entryway into the man's music with several great moody tracks that create a beautiful, melancholy atmosphere.
