Xanadu

The movie "Xanadu" is, well, just plain bad. The soundtrack on the other hand has some terrific pop songs. John Farrar's track "Magic" sung by Olivia Newton-John is pure pop heaven. Most of the other tracks vary from OK to really good.

The ELO tracks sound like they belong on some sort of lost follow up to "Discovery". "I'm Alive" and "The Fall" meld gorgeous melodies to the classic ELO sound mixed with a disco beat. "Don't Walk Away" and "All Over the World" are the highlights while the title track written by Jeff Lynne and performed by Olivia Newton-John (Jeff Lynne did a version that is on the ELO boxed set)is perfect pompous pop music capturing everything that is both absurd and terrific about ELO all and ONJ.

Live at Knebworth: Parts 1, 2 & 3

Good in parts, bounced around a fair bit, curious mix of styles and a bit of a teaser in that the "stars" would come on, sing 2 maybe 3 songs and then stop........ not awfully well tied together and at the end I felt that on balance it was just about ok but not great.

Reunited

All these tracks are very good although "On the Beach" has peculiar harmonies and seems to have a mis-start. Bruce Welch's rhythm guitar and Brian Bennett's drumming really shine--more than on the original recordings. It's too bad that all the new recordings are not on this album. To get them all, you currently have to buy an EP cd along with an actual vinyl single (with three tracks).
In the reunion concerts, the Shadows played some instrumental sets. These are not on this CD, which is unfortunate, and the concert DVD is only available in PAL and region 2.

Cliff Richard - Private Collection (1979-1988)

And I mean that! Cliff Richard has one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard in my life! If you like good 80s pop songs (from 1979-1988); you are missing out on a tremendous talent by not having this CD. Like me; several of you will remember three songs here. The outstanding duet with Olivia Newton-John called, Suddenly, plus you will also remember, Dreamin, and, We Don't Talk Anymore, but I think there are songs here that are just as good or even better than those three so I'll list a few of them.
