No Line On The Horizon

I've been a big U2 fan since the early nineties, when as a sophomore in high school I received my very first CD player. One of the first CDs I bought was U2's The Joshua Tree. When Achtung Baby came out, it was like a revelation and cemented my interest in this talented foursome. Through the years, I've acquired their back catalog and waited with anticipation for each new release. I've seen other fans express disgust with Zooropa, Pop, and How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, but I've always believed that great artists cannot remain stuck in the past, but must evolve as time passes.

I really like the music on this series of CDs. Makes kids music less redundant. Whoever came up with this idea is brilliant. I am a U2 fan, so, I enjoy listening, too.

The Joshua Tree

Back in '83 when we were wailing War over and over again in our dorm rooms and busy making party mix tapes featuring I Will Follow who would have thought U2 would ultimately turn into a massive marketing machine for remixed, remastered, and repackaged media product? Well in the scheme of things I suppose this is fine since millions seem to love it and a goodly chunk of the proceeds are presumably funneled off to Africa's needy. Between the merit of the product itself on the one hand and the prodigious effort and endless hype on the other, there is however, a colossal mis-match.

U218 Singles

U2 is one of my favorite bands. I'm seeing them live on the upcoming "360 Degrees" tour, which consists of the spaceship in the stadium setting, they were one of the first bands I got into. The Irish rockers know how to deliver with each album in different ways- Paul "Bono" Hewson's unique voice, The Edge's infamous "delay" guitar technique, Adam's driving basslines, Larry's catchy drumming, and awesome stage presence, etc. I own about 5 of their albums, and their 2 2000 "Best Of"s they released.
