August and Everything After

Sixteen years later and I still find myself singing some of these songs. There was nothing like it when it came out and I don't personally believe this band ever quite captured this level of perfection again; the emotion, the edginess, rawness, the music and lyrics. Superbly produced, everything lined up and that is a rare occurrence in the studio.
There's plenty of praise here on the reviews but I think it's worth resurrecting this CD if you have it and listening to it. If you don't have it, check it out.

Films About Ghosts: The Best Of...

"August & Everything After" and "Hard Candy" are up there with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". In my top 100 favorite CDs. The other stuff? Only one decent song from "Satellites"?

BUT:

Hey guys, stay with that "August" quality and quit waffling around with the subsequent mediocre stuff. Stay true to your form please.

Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings

If I can put a CD in and let it play nonstop, over and over again, to me thats the sign of a great album. Just like August and Everything After, I can play this CD over and over again and not get tired of it. Im no music reviewer but this CD has, in my opinion, alot of the grittiness that made August and Everything after so appealing. Its not some effort to make a bubble-gum record. If youre a true fan of their music, youll love this CD.

Recovering the Satellites

RTS was a nice follow up to their critical and popular smash debut, effectively contrasted by more rural and rowdier work than a highly-polished, middleground-minded, and wonderful nonetheless AAEA. Besides for a few less-than-inspiring numbers, the move pays off just as well, with these crows counting great rock song after great rock song. Sadly, material after this album sounded too weak for me to even check out...and it is a disaster to see what kind of music this influence has spawned.
