Werner Bischof: Life and Work of a Photographer 1916-1954

by: Marco Bischof, Carl Philabaum, Tania Kuhn
I expected to find a rich gallery of pics of this great photograph. But what I found was a program that force you to see them in a very small format, silly interactive biographical notice and little more. As a multimedia is strongly disappointing, and as a source of pictures is just bad: you cannot appreciate the beauty of the picture nor the texture of them. I would recommend all Bishop lovers to buy a paper book instead.

The World of Werner Bischof: A Photographer's Odyssey

by: Werner Adalbert Bischof, Text by Manuel Gasser
Out of print, scarce photography collectible by great photographer. Many of the photographs are journalistic and quite interesting, but some are like the stunning design on the cover. Jacket says:"...Before his tragic death in the Andes in 1954, Bischof was known the world over as one of the foremost interpreters of life through art photography. The full scope of his camera artistry is displayed in this exceptionally beautiful collection of 74 photographs, reproduced in black and white and in radiant color.

Werner Bischof: Questions to My Father

by: Dieter Buchmann
In 1916, with the Great War reducing northern Europe to a treeless, shattered void, a boy was born to the prosperous director of a pharmaceutical firm in Zurich. He was named Werner. It was not an auspicious time to be born and, indeed, his mother died soon after. As a child, young Werner sought order in his life by dissecting snails and photographing, in the limpid light of his creation, the elegant whorls revealed. He did not become the physical training instructor his father wanted him to be. He did not become the painter he had once wanted to be in Paris in 1939, on the brink of another devastating conflict.
