Robert Frank: Polaroids (Slipcase)

After completing his seminal photography book The Americans in 1958, Robert Frank put aside the single image and concentrated throughout the 1960s on film-making. He only returned to still photography in the 1970s, using a Polaroid camera with black-and-white positive/negative film. These images were frequently layered with text, which Frank inscribed by hand onto the Polaroid negative. He found that these works allowed him more freedom to "destroy that image, that perfect image." In recent years, Frank has worked almost exclusively with Polaroids, exploring the collage and assemblage possibilities of the instant photograph.

In view of the current economic tailspin, this presents a perspective that may have already passed us by in this generation. But it aptly describes a phenomenon of our most recent past, the uber-rich -- lifestyles, priorities, challenges, excesses. While the majority of those described herein will probably survive the free-falling economy, it's to be expected that the numbers will be decimated in most instances. The personal whims and wants of having the biggest, most technologically advanced, most desirable of everything -- and the staff to manage it all -- will likely be considerably downsized.

As of late, microeconomic and macroeconomic theory has been incorporating social, psychological and social-psychological theory and concepts into the fold. This makes sense, for the quantification sans-psychology (social psychology) of analysis has been poor.

This author is well-versed in this area and articulates well the concepts which are important. However, as my colleagues have stated, the book does leave much to be desired in the mathematical-sense.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Judgment, Choice and Rationality (defined).
