Cape Light: Color Photographs by Joel Meyerowitz

by: Joel Meyerowitz
Having been to Cape Cod a lot of times, I'm intrigued by the nature. I read the reviews and thought the book would be special, with a focus on nature of Cap Cod. This was not the case. Most of the pictures could have been taken anywhere in the world... I'm not a professional photographer, but have to say that the compositions was not very exciting, quite boring actually.

At the Water's Edge

by: Joel Meyerowitz
Since 1976, Joel Meyerowitz has photographed Cape Cod Bay in Provincetown, Massachusetts, during all hours of the day--from first light to dusk and beyond--capturing the contemplative mood created by light, air, and water. This small-format gift book gathers the best of those photos--originally published in Meyerowitz's classic Cape Cod collections--to create the perfect memento of time spent along the shore. 70 color illustrations.

Joel Meyerowitz

by: Colin Westerbeck
Evidently Joel's main claim to fame is his relationship with Garry Winogrand. Certainly the photographs in this book don't put him in the same class as Winogrand or Winogrand's other contemporaries. Unfortunately, Joel has added self-congratulatory comments to the pictures in this book. The combination of mediocre photographs and unfortunate comments is likely to leave the reader with a feeling that adding this book to his photographic library was a mistake. Nice cover though.

Redheads

by: Joel Meyerowitz
Redheads, by Meyerowitz, is a tasteful gallery of full-color photos. It includes both sexes, as well as all body types and ages (and all shades of red). There is no text; the focus instead is on the subjects, who show remarkable variety of expression and posture. One of the few complaints I have with the book is the limited photojournalism; nearly all of the photos are composed the same, with the subject(s) centered and posed looking at the camera. Overall, the book is fairly good, and very good if you prefer redheads.
