The Practice of Contemplative Photography: Seeing the World with Fresh Eyes

This book teaches us how to fully connect with the visual richness of our ordinary, daily experience. Photography is not just a mechanical process; it requires learning how to see. As you develop your ability to look and see, you will open, more and more, to the natural inspiration of your surroundings.

Filled with practical exercises, photographic assignments, and techniques for working with texture, light, and color, this book offers a system of training that draws on both Buddhist mindfulness practice and the insights of master photographers such as Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston, and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century

by: Peter Galassi
Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) is one of the most influential and beloved figures in the history of photography. His inventive work of the early 1930s helped define the creative potential of modern photography. Following World War II, he helped found the Magnum photo agency, which enabled photojournalists to reach a broad audience through magazines such as Life while retaining control over their work. Cartier-Bresson would go on to produce major bodies of photographic reportage, capturing such events as China during the revolution, the Soviet Union after Stalin's death, the United States in the postwar boom and Europe as its older cultures confronted modern realities.

Pecha Kucha - Henri Cartier-Bresson

The term Pecha Kucha is Japanese and roughly translates as chit-chat. It refers to a type of minimalist presentation and is widely growing in popularity. During Pecha Kucha evenings, participants get to show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, sharing their ideas with the audience. The time and image restrictions ensure quality over quantity and allow the audience to learn a little about a lot of different interesting things. This persentation by Adrian Holmes is about the famous photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.
