The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1969, Vol. 3

Muddy Waters, Big Mama Thornton, Bukka White, Memphis Slim
You know when we were listening to all those folkies like Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk and Joan Baez or starting to pick up on the Beatles or The Rolling Stones the American home grown blues was traveling to Europe to be appreciated by those audiences. Well, what goes around comes around. Here we have a `second' chance, thanks to these recently discovered archives rescued by German cinema, to see what we missed from the legends that were just winding down their careers.

So what do we have here? A sizzling T-Bone Walker.

Muddy Water Blues: A Tribute to Muddy Waters

When you put together a line up of some of the greatest Guitar players ever and pair them with one of the greatest voices in rock and roll, how can you go wrong?! I'm not sure, however, it qualifies as true "Blues". If you're a Blues purest, you'll probably be a little disappointed. But if you love good old rock and roll with kick Ass guitar playing, then this is a great CD! Not really Muddy Waters style blues, closer to the classic old "Bad Company" sound. The rendition of "I just want to make love to you" with Jeff Back playing guitar is absolutely off the hook! This song alone is worth buying the CD!

The Chess Box :Muddy Waters

72 tracks on this compilation, and not a single flaw.
The Plantation Recordings from the early 40's and his late 70's albums produced by Johnny Winter are all fine, because again, he just couldn't open his mouth and sing a BAD song.
But leave these ones alone, and get The Chess Box (Everything he has done for Chess between 1947-1972). Just like other Chess artists (Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy) - the Chess years are his best by far, and the tracks put chronologically here serves you ear and historic sense great.
