Tubular Bells 2003

People read these reviews because they are not sure about an artist or one of their works, and are just getting interested. Let me assure anyone reading this (if you are recently interested in Mike Oldfield) that this is a beautiful CD.

The reviewers here leave a confusing picture: some haven't heard this but reviewed it anyway, others are getting it mixed up with Tubular Bells 3, which has different music on it.

I bought this CD after reading reviews here, and was not put off by the supposed fans, crying about remakes (how many times???) etc.

Amazon, for some reason, has suggested to me that I might want to buy this.

Ah no.

If you are really desperate to hear tubular bells, can I suggest a good recording of Parsifal? It has the virtue of being, if only subjectively, shorter.

As a newcomer to internet buying, I bought this concert DVD only recently. I have admired this brilliant musician for his ability and his calmness on stage. Considering the weather at that time of the concert, all of the participants did a magnificent job. I have nearly all the concert DVD's by Mike Oldfield, including the Knebworth concert, the Edinburgh concert, the exposed tour and Tubular Bells 111. The pleasure of being one of Mike's musicians showed itself in the impromtu dances on stage at the time nearing midnight of that particular day.

This is a great DVD of two live performances of Mike Oldfield. Side One is Tubular Bells II performed live at Edinburgh Castle. Mike and his other musicians, and the orchestra all play pretty close to the original album of Tubular Bells II. It's rather disappointing that the "Altered State" segment has to be a part of his most cherished album ever. I cringe every time I here the album go into that annoying "caveman-like" tangent. It follows "Tattoo" (with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards" on bagpipes) which is my favorite part of TB II.
