John Cale music
The Velvet Underground & Nico
It's nothing at all. White light. I am tired. I am weary. I could sleep 4000 years, a thousand dreams that would awake me.
Every so often, searching for my mainline, I play The Velvet Underground, a rock group whose records I have owned for forty years. The Velvet Underground never gets old to me: the first album with Nico, White Light/White Heat, Loaded, the redundant eponymous one later. Those four, mostly. The Velvet Underground are like The Beatles. I have never been a heroin addict, but I have read the works of William Burroughs, word by cut-up word, so I consider myself entitled.

The Modern Lovers
So Jonathan Richman might be described as an acquired taste. And as time passes on, what was once a cult classic can perhaps be reborne and re-examined anew. I have had this experience with my wife, who has no clue who this Richman or the Modern Lovers are/were.
This album is straight ahead, stripped down rock and roll. The band may sound garage like, but if you like that minimalist kind of raw rock (not the colliseum, Journey type theatrics) this is it. Throw in funny and sometimes clever lyrics, and incredible pop hooks, seemingly casually thrown out there, and what you have is a true musical genius just trying to be real and perhaps wry.

The Stooges
Not as monumental as Funhouse or Raw Power but still great. All guitarists need to study Ron's playing on this - simple but not simplistic, great tone and completely unique. Many have tried to imitate his style but nooone comes close. And Scotty, Iggy and Dave aren't too bad either!

The Stooges
The Stooges! Back then they may have been considered an ordinary rock band who wasn't able to stand tall against bands like Led Zeppelin and Who, but today people look at the band in a totally different light- a band that was one of the first, if not THE first band, to have that rough punk rock sound, dirty and nasty. It was different from everything else we've been exposed to up to that point in time. I guess there was just too many revolutionary musical ideas going on back in the late 60's that the world of rock wasn't ready to appreciate something like this.
