Frank Zappa: Apostrophe / Over-Nite Sensation

This is a fabulous overview of two of Frank Zappa's best albums. It offers interesting insights into the songs. There are interviews with family members and band members that detail Zappa's time and effort that he put into the music as a composer, arranger, performer and producer. All dedicated fans will enjoy this dvd. It also shows Dweezil's deep love for his father(he is always shown playing his dad's guitar)and this makes it a fine tribute to his dad. I like Dweezil's comments on each track of the albums, very insightful.

Freak Out!

Debut albums are often tentative, exploratory works. They find artists refining their sound, honing their chops, getting a feel for the studio, delicately introducing themselves to their audiences, and otherwise learning to navigate the ins and outs of this whole "recorded music" thing. In the 60s, this usually made for unexciting quickies that buried two great songs under ten bits of worthless filler. Covers ruled the day, and the originals were largely dull and derivative.

For his debut album, Frank Zappa ripped rock music in half and rebuilt it in his own image.

One Size Fits All

One Size fits all is one of the albums created by zappa's 1973-1975 band. This band is considered by most fans to be Zappa's most musically adept band ever.
One Size definitely shows this.
The band is extrodinarily tight, and consists of superb musicians such as: George Duke (jazz pianist), Johnny Guitar Watson (r&b guitarist), Captain Beefheart (rock?), and the great Tom Fowler (Bass Guitarist).

THIS IS NOT A JAZZ/ROCK ALBUM OR A JAZZY ALBUM.

The reason for me writing this review was to debunk the popular myth that this is a jazz fusion album.
