One Size Fits All

I don't particularly take to writing music reviews, primarily because I agree with Zappa in this respect: talking about music is like fishing about architecture.

But what I wanted to say about this masterpiece is that not only was it the first ever album I remember listening to as a small kid (picture a mop haired 3 year old with huge 70's cans on) but that I have never once in all of my 36 years felt bored of listening to it. I can't recall one period of my life when I didn't listen to One Size Fits All on a regular basis.

Over-Nite Sensation

If people accused Zappa of selling out with the Flo and Eddie band, this only magnified with Overnite Sensation.

With the salatious lyrics and reletively solid strong strucutes--a far cry from the dada of the origional MOI-Zappa was using a streemlined approach.

But the guitar work on "Dirty Love," and, particulaly "Montana," show Zappa's six string approach was getting more dense, symphonic and compressed. Those 1960s leaps in playing he made on 1969s Hot Rats were here given more layers and applifacation.

The Grand Wazoo

When people label Zappa as 'jazz-fusion' this is one of the albums that is the reason for that. If you are looking for the acerbic witted lyrics or cuts that made The Mothers unique this isn't the album for you. If you are looking for an amazing and unique sound then you have come to the right place. I don't own a huge amount of Zappa but after listening to this album it has quickly risen in my estimation as one of his best. It clearly shows off Zappa's often talked about unique and gifted musical style but unlike many albums like "Sheik Yerbhouti" he doesn't let trying to be clever get in the way of the music.

Roxy & Elsewhere

A great collection of live tunes from the Master. If you love Zappa's material like Hot Rats, Overnite Sensation, Apostrophe, this one won't disappoint you. A must-have for your Zappa collection!
