Love Is Greater Than Me

To paraphrase my brother, who is a both a devoted guitarist and a devoted student of many playing styles (from D'Jango to Jimi), Chris Duarte manages to combine influences from many, many other fine artists and yet retains his own unique style. His music ranges from straight-ahead kick-butt rock to liquid, buttery-smooth jazz, blues and soul. If you expect ANY of his albums to be consistent and uneclectic, forget it. If, however, you delight in amazing, incindiary, surprising and listenable ear-candy, ALL of Duarte's work is a treat.

Chris Duarte is a true wonder of the musical world. He is a guitarist beyond gifted. I have long wondered why Chris Duarte is not more recognized for his mind blowing guitar playing. After all of these years and hearing all of his records I stil have no clue. Get on the bandwagon people! We have an absolute guitar genius in front of us and still he goes unnoticed. This record displays everything that is great about Duarte. His vocals seem to be much improved on this record and his riffs on this record are once again superb! His fretboard execution is flawless and he plays with as much passion an fire as anyone who has ever played.

I really enjoy Chris Duarte's playing but I feel this video is little to no value to any player. If you are a new player, he doesn't really teach you anything. He tells you a few times that you need to get into the material and figure it out yourself. If you are an experienced player, he is not going to tell you anything you haven't heard before. I've purchased two of these newer Hal Leonard videos (also have the Eric Johnson video) and I don't really think either of them are done very well. The Hot Licks videos are older but much more useful, if you actually want to learn something.
