Charlie Parker will always be the greatest saxaphone player who ever lived. This CD is a fine example of why he is regarded as the best(and always will be). This the REAL DEAL people, the REAL DEAL. In 2004, Charlie Parker became one of the many stars to get a compilation in the 20th Century Masters The Millenium Collection CDs. Read on for further details.

The Millenium Collections are always great. They remaster the tracks 24.bit so the sound is awesome. Charlie Parker's compilation is cool, just like he was.

The Essential Charlie Parker

I'm not saying 'The Essential Charlie Parker' is bad at all. It's actually superb, if I'm being honest. But, I can't give this five stars. Why, you may ask?

Well, there are just so many better options. Now I realize that to many, this is the ideal Parker collection and this is the one that people buy. But there are box sets, regular compilations, you name it.

My advice is buy the single disc 'Ken Burns JAZZ: Charlie Parker.' That spans 1941-1952, his entire career basically, and includes all of his classics.

Charlie Parker: A Studio Chronicle 1940-1948

JSP is known throughout the music collector world for having the highest in sound quality (for a relatively small label devoted only to reissues, box sets etc). This set includes all of the master takes Bird appeared on on the Savoy, Dial, Guild, Bel-Tone, and Comet labels, during the years 1944-48, plus a disc containing most of his pre-bop recordings, including demos, some of which are very rare (though not very interesting in my opinion). The main stuff, '44-'48, is some of the most important music recorded ever, and consequently it's not hard to come by- what makes this set unique is the combination of price, quality, and completeness.
