Bix Beiderbecke, Vol. 1: Singin' the Blues

One of the other reviews commented how this disc had no surface noise? Well, they're right. The noise reduction (sounds like an older analog process) removed enough of the upper frequencies that the label chose to add echo after the fact to cover up their handiwork. So, "Blue River" is a brilliant performance . . . but it appears here in mediocre sound. For my money, the best sounding set out there NOT on Mosaic is the 2-cd 'Jazz Tribune Vol 48' on RCA (a US release).
There is a WORSE sounding Beiderbecke cd out there, with Orrin Keepnews' name on it yet.

Tracks:
    1. Trumbology - Bix Beiderbecke, Trumbauer, Frankie

Bix Beiderbecke, Vol. 2: At the Jazz Band Ball

I have been a big Bix fan for many years, and was delighted when I purchased this CD. Bix, in my opinion, was the best jazz cornetist of all time, and ranks as my favorite jazz musician. The tone he was able to achieve on his cornet just floors me every time I listen to his records. This collection does a good job of bringing together some of his best recordings along with his rarest, and several tracks he might not even have played on! (I think most have agreed that Bix was NOT on the Lou Raderman sides).

Tracks:
    1. Three Blind Mice, No. 1 - Bix Beiderbecke, Morehouse, Chauncey
    2. Three Blind Mice, No. 2 - Bix Beiderbecke, Morehouse, Chauncey
    3. Clorinda, No. 1 - Bix Beiderbecke, Heywood, D.
    4. Clorinda, No. 2 - Bix Beiderbecke, Heywood, D.

    6. I'm More Than Satisfied, No. 2 - Bix Beiderbecke, Klages, Raymond
    7. At the Jazz Band Ball - Bix Beiderbecke, Edwards, Eddie B.
    8. Royal Garden Blues - Bix Beiderbecke, Williams, Clarence
    9. Jazz Me Blues - Bix Beiderbecke, Delaney, Tom
    10. Goose Pimples - Bix Beiderbecke, Henderson, Fletcher
    11. Sorry - Bix Beiderbecke, Klages, Raymond

The Bix Beiderbecke Story

This is exceptional value - a 4 CD collection with a 56 page illustrated booklet. The re-mastered recordings are comparable to any in my extensive collection of Bix's work. If I were to criticise it would be the cardboard covers to the CDs but at this price I am not going to knock a star off.

Tracks:
    1. Fidgety Feet - Bix Beiderbecke, La Rocca
    2. Jazz Me Blues - Bix Beiderbecke, Delaney
    3. Oh, Baby - Bix Beiderbecke, De Sylva
    4. Copenhagen - Bix Beiderbecke, Melrose, Frank
    5. Riverboat Shuffle - Bix Beiderbecke, Carmichael
    6. Susie (Of the Islands) - Bix Beiderbecke, Kahn, Gus
    7. I Need Some Pettin' - Bix Beiderbecke, Fio Rito, Ted
    8. Royal Garden Blues - Bix Beiderbecke, Williams
    9. Tiger Rag - Bix Beiderbecke, DaCosta, Harry
    10. Sensation - Bix Beiderbecke, Edwards, Eddie
    11. Lazy Daddy - Bix Beiderbecke, La Rocca
    12. Tia Juana - Bix Beiderbecke, Rodemich
