Dancer in the Dark (New Line Platinum Series)

Bjork is so great. I wish she was in at least some of the bonus features. I don't like musicals, but this movie has the perfect balance of singing to dialogue. Maybe its just cuz I appreciate Bjork so much, but I think even non-Bjork fans could enjoy this movie.

`Dogville' is one of those films that you really have to see multiple times to really appreciate. Maybe that is the case with all good films, for no film can really be considered a masterpiece after one solitary viewing (or can they?). I've seen `Dogville' a number of times, and even though I was quick to laud it after one viewing alone, it has really settled with me as one of the most important and most controversially monumental films of the past decade, maybe even forever, the more I see it.

I like to pick up a European movie from time to time, and most of them, are soso. This one, however, was so indepth, so close to the actual person, and so atypical of how we allow others to shape and form our mental capacities, I swear, I had to pause this move at least 9 times because I couldn't stop crying. This is the ultimate tear jerking movie of all times. Wonderful movie, well worth every minute I spent watching it. Gosh, I wish I could find movies on par with this one.

People seem disappointed with the transfer to DVD, but it didn't bother me too much. It's an old video, so I wouldn't expect it to be perfect. All things technical need not be perfect at all times.

This story was one of my favorites in college, so I was naturally interested in the film versions. I prefer this adaptation to the one with Maria Callas. The atmosphere is more suitable in von Trier's work, with the mist, wind, barren land, gray seas.
