Only a sick and twisted mind could conceive of the warped stories that are found in the graphic novel series Sin City. Frank Miller is just such a mind. His morbid fascinations with corrupt authority figures, hypocritical religions, sleazy yet strong-willed women, and violent anti-heroes are thrust into the spotlight in his work. With his comic books and graphic novels, we are given a disturbing glimpse into his worldview.

I've never seen the play and have never even heard of it before. I did see the preview for it and thought that the opening music was uplifting and held high hopes for this movie, at least enough to rent it.

After seeing it, I should have just stuck with my visions of it from the preview, because that was the only good part of this film.

I've seen film adaptations of musicals fall short (except for Grease) and would be willing to go to the play to see if it was any better.

Clerks II (Two-Disc Widescreen Edition)

I saw the trailer to this movie and a brief television review prior to renting it and its predecessor, "Clerks I". I found the term "interspecial erotica" disgusting, yet intriguing. Yeah, the rating is "R" due to alleged "aberrant sexuality" but the movie is so funny that somehow the possibility of crude sexuality didn't scare me away. The movie is hilarious. Now the rest of those clowns in the movie built up an immunity from the first film but I don't see how Rosario Dawson made it through the movie without being admitted to a Level 1 Trauma Center for "Severe Comic Relief, secondary to Uncontrollable Giggling, NOS".

25th Hour

I saw 25th Hour, starring Edward Norton, last week, and I sooooo enjoyed it. In this movie, Norton plays Montgomery, a drug dealer who gets pinched by the DEA. The movie catalogues his final day of freedom before he goes to jail for 7 years on drug charges. He re-visits his old school, has dinner with his father (a wonderful turn by Brian Cox), and goes out one last time with his two best friends (played beautifully by Philip Seymour Hoffman and Barry Pepper) and his girlfriend (Rosario Dawson). .
