These are the first and only two seasons of "First Person," Erroll Morris' documentary series. They make for frequently morbid but undeniably absorbing television.

Morris has an unusual style that most viewers find riveting. Using his "Interrotron," a device that allows his subjects to look at him and answer his questions naturally as they address the camera directly, he interviews quirky, articulate people, most of whom seem to have an intimate relationship to death, and intersperses snippets of the interviews with documents, reenactments, and archival footage.

I just happend to buy a copy of this DVD on a whim, and I'm delighted I did! Chicago Filmmakers On The Chicago River is a very loving, fun-filled journey into the minds-eye of people who are simply put - driven to make movies, and take glee even in the hardships they face doing it. It has a mythic quality, with amazing images and sound design. Watching it makes a viewer wonder how director D.P. Carlson EVER pulled this off. Boats of every kind glide through the flowing water of the powerful Chicago River, and one after another great film directors talk of their lives and careers with a candid frankness and honesty that is very personal and engaging.
