And I thought only Hollywood could produce such self-conscious, unfunny, witless television.

Handsome Max Beesley was delightful in Tom Jones, but his career, aside from the big money, has taken a real nose-dive with this series. Likewise, Dexter Fletcher saw much better days with Guy Ritchie. Except for the 'hard-nosed business woman', the women are self-serving bimbos that Las Vegas would be proud of, but all the characters are monochromatic and shameless stereotypes: unctuous Italian, gay black, trampy receptionist.

Big fan of the accents! I loved how they ended up falling in love once he was able to see the person beneath all of her problems. The ending was also beautiful.

Classic Literary Films Collection DVD SET

First, I must confess that I have not seen this collection, as a collection. Therefore cannot speak to the quality of the reproductions. But I have seen and thoroughly enjoyed 3 of these 5 TV adaptations of the classics, and feel justified in rating the collection at least 4 stars. Kate Beckinsale's "Emma" is refreshingly different from other productions of this Jane Austen classic. The production of "Tom Jones" is a very entertaining, and rather bawdy, romp through 18th century England, in 5 full-length episodes.

I happened to catch this movie the other night, and I wasn't expecting much, but live and learn I guess...cuz I was way off. This is a simple yet complex story about an Irish family who deals with a lot off built up emotions that are finally released due to a sudden tragedy in the family. Not too much happens in the movie, it is a very dialogue heavy film which really analyzes the intricasies of family relationships and human behavior. You might relate to it a bit more if you are Irish or European yourself: I'm Romanian myself.
