I thought this would be decent since it was a Dracula movie and directed by Wes Craven but it was horrible. Gerard Butler is hot but that wasent enough to keep my attention from this snore jerker of a movie.

Wow... I didn't know what this movie was about. I purchased it because I love Justine Waddell in Wives and Daughters. Well, Justine does an amazing job, of course, but the subject matter is a little heavy. Call me clueless, but I was very suprised. If you aren't familiar with the storyline, you should familiarize yourself with it before you decide to purchase this film.

I want to begin this review with the fact that I love Wilkie Collins' work; he is a great writer, and The Woman in White is his best and my personal favorite. It is a great book with a thrilling story and great characters, a true masterpiece of Gothic fiction.

The movie, on the other hand, isn't so good.

From the very first scene you get the feeling that the rest of the movie is going to be dark and depressing. The writers left the book by the wayside when they wrote this script, and it bears no resemblance to the book aside from the fact that there is a woman in it and that she's dressed in white.

Wives and Daughters

I would not say that this is a classic production but nonetheless it is very enjoyable. A distracting feature of the production was that the actress playing the heroine appeared to be painfully thin - one longed to make her sit down for several bowls of stew. Leaving that aside, there is plenty of drama in this story and it was lovely to see the love interest between the heroine and the young biologist unfold - the dawning realisation on his part that he loved her. And, of course, the sad story of the brother critically ill and leaving a wife and family.
