During WWII, the people trying to live in the Washington, D.C. area have to deal with a housing shortage, so when Jean Arthur's character offers half of her 2-br apartment as a patriotic gesture, clever Charles Coburn snags it. Dismayed that such a delightful and pretty girl (and in this film, Jean Arthur's assets are on display more here than in any other I've seen) is without a proper husband, especially with D.C. being 8 to 1 women over men, he makes it his business to set her up. Along comes Joel McCrea who becomes Coburn's roommate in half of his half of the apartment.

Anything with Joel McCrea...or even his buddy,Randolph Scott is good entertainment.I miss their kind a lot.McCrea has so many more westerns not on dvd..I can't understand why not.Like CATTLE DRIVE..with DEAN STOCKWELL..a very good western.This one wasn't great..but it was entertainting.I liked it.Thankyou again. Foreign Correspondent

Joel McCrea stars in this thriler in which he is a foreign correspondent charged with going to Europe to find out what is going on just before World War Two is declared. A dignitary with knowledge of information about a treaty that could cause the war to begin is kidnapped by the Nazis and replaced with a duplicate who is shot. McCrea is launched deep into the drama when he tries to track down the people who committed the misdeed while he, in turn, is the target of the Nazis. There is great scene at a Holland Windmill where McCrea sees the Nazis drugging the real dignatary, who ultimately takes him elsewhere to grill him about the details of the secret language of the treaty that he knows about.

Stranger On Horseback

Admittedly, I am not a Joel McCrea fan by any means. I do snap up any films based on stories from Louie Lamour and this film was classic Lamour. Joel McCrea did a good job with his character and that says a lot when you consider that I have never been a fan of this particular actor. John Carradine was fantastic as always and much younger in this film.

The quality of this DVD was poor. The original film negative was lost at some point in time and this DVD was produced off a copy of a film that survived.
