The Marx Brothers Collection (A Night at The Opera/A Day at The Races/A Night in Casablanca/Room Service/At the Circus/Go West/The Big Store)

Although this set does not have the better films of the Marx Brothers (Duck Soup, Horse Feathers, Animal Crackers, etc.) these are all the films that are in Warner Brothers Library, all in one set. A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, A DAY AT THE RACES and A NIGHT IN CASABLANCA all have individual packaging. ROOM SERVICE and AT THE CIRCUS are on a double sided disc. GO WEST and THE BIG STORE are also on a double sided disc.

Although this set does not contain their best material in total (A Night at the Opera rivals Duck Soup as their best work), the set has seven wonderful, hilarious, fun-filled films.

All are good solid comedies, but in my opinion Duck Soup is far and away the best of the bunch.
The Marx Brothers humor is timeless. There is very little in any of these films that is terribly dated. You could take almost any
of the gags used in these films and put them in a modern comedy and it would still work just as well.
Matter of fact modern comedians could learn a lot from the old timers like the Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy, and Red Skelton.

A Night at the Opera

I do not buy dvds for the extras in them as I have heard people do. I'm not much on documentaries but if you enjoy the Marx Brothers, and have all their movies you still don't have it all. This collection is the best to add to your collection. There are pilots that has never been seen complete and uncut. Home movies and even radio shows. I'm glad I got it and if you like The Marx Brothers you would be glad you had it to.

This is a good collector movie as it is the last movie that the Marx Brothers made together. Secondly, it is neat to see Marilyn Monroe in a brief bit part as this was the beginning of her career. The movie has some of the Harpo, Chico, and Groucho slapstic and music. However, it doesn't appear to be written as well as some of their earlier movies.
