"The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" is one of the classic movies that I picked up to show my two teens. We have been trying to expose them to great movies and this one rates very highly, indeed.

This movie is a love story, complete with one of the most complicated love triangles ever. The plot follows the recently widowed Lucy Muir (played by the wonderful Gene Tierney) as she tries to strike out on her own, renting a house haunted by the ghost of Captain Gregg (Rex Harrison is fantastic in this role).

To see a perfectly coiffed Gene Tierny in a row boat, with her icy stare, watching her husbands brother drown is worth the price of the DVD alone. It's filled with gorgeous colors, beautiful people and high melodrama at it's best. I *highly* reccommend this movie.

The Razor's Edge

Great Fox movie with an overwhelming cast. Maugham does a Herman Hesse thing that certainly moved types toward non-conformity. I'm certain this flick had a lasting impression on Jack Kerouac. He must have seen it while at Columbia University. The beat era had it's roots with this film. Clifton Webb's portrayal of uncle Elliot a gem. The song Mamoselle has a lasting effect on the production.

Where the Sidewalk Ends (Fox Film Noir)

Dana Andrews, Gene Tierney, Gary Merrill, Bert Freed, Tom Tully
Really enjoyed this wonderfully atmospheric noir. Great New York black & white shots, a sharp, smart even sensitive script, great characters and, best of all, everybody getting slapped around mercilessly including diva Tierney. Dana Andrews, who at first appeared miscast, was outstanding as the grizzled no-nonsense veteran cop who accidentally kills while trying to find a killer. Everybody in this was simply at the top of their game-- probably a result of Otto Preminger's direction. Bert Freed, one of those "I've seen him before" character actors, was excellent as Andrews' cop partner.
