This movie is a little silly at times, sometimes a little stiff, with stock characters and themes, but by the middle those characters have grown on us and we want to see the themes play out.

The plot involves the second richest man in the world being drawn into masquerading as a squatter in his own house, and what he learns from the experience. It's set post-WWII, with a nod to the concerns of the day for jobs and housing for returning soldiers. Don DeFore plays the younger romantic lead, a veteran unknowingly falling for the rich man's daughter.

Winner of a national 1940s talent search on CBS radio's Gateway to Hollywood (a precursor to today's American Idol), Texas teen Josephine Cottle (now Gale Storm) literally took Hollywood by storm, becoming a legendary star of radio, film, television, records and stage. The wholesome, auburn-haired beauty won a contract with RKO Studio where she completed her schooling while filming. In 1941 alone, she starred in eight movies. Her debut television series in 1952, My Little Margie, a summer replacement for I Love Lucy, was a huge hit on live radio and TV.

What a treat to own this compilation of "My Little Margie". I also ordered Vol. 2 and I hope that more will follow. Sadly, Gale Storm passed away on June 27, 2009 and was the last surving cast member and star. She was truly a pioneer and paved the way for many wonderful comedic actresses who followed. The other actors are great too, especialy the very distinguished Charles Farrell. Like I Love Lucy, these episodes are still funny and we can all use a little light humor today. I wish that a DVD was available for Gale's second series, "Oh Susannah".

Swing Parade of 1946 is a full-feature musical comedy starring the terrific threesome as they bungle and bumble their way through another one of their harebrained schemes; this time unsuccesfully attempting work as nightclub waiters (which is the segue for the film's numerous musical performances).

Fans of the Stooges will relish the opportunity to see not just some of their rarer later work, but also Curly's last hurrah as a Stooge. By this time, everyone's favorite goofball had succumbed to illness, and it certainly shows on-screen, in his physicality, demeanor and lack of energy.
