"The Blues Brothers" is one of those films you wind up watching again and again. In large part this is because of the music-- the film is really a musical at heart, and a chance to showcase the talents of some of the greatest singers of our time. And because it is a musical, the film gets away with taking liberties with reality that even a comedy would hesitate to do.

It helps that this is also Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi at the height of their game. Few comedians could have kept these characters interesting for a solid 2 1/2 hours, sometimes making us laugh with nothing more than a glance.

This is a excellant movie--it is has comedy, a form of racism, and the emotions of someone growing older and having difficulties. The actors were VERY good. It touches on the racial tensions in the 60's and how blacks were treated with No respect.

Saturday Night Live premiered in the fall of 1975. At that time, the show broke new ground in the otherwise stale, late-night TV landscape. It was fresh, cutting-edge, and boiling-over with it's unprecedented brand of risqué humor.

It's target audience, was mainly the teen and twenty-something 70s baby-boomers. These viewers finally had a comedy show, that they could instantly relate to. It poked fun at everything their parent's generation tended to take too seriously; religion, politics, social proprieties, etc.

This movie is one of the best peformances of Robert Downey Jr.'s career. Although this is one of his earlier performances the depth of his acting is delved into the deepest parts. This was filmed during his days of trouble with drinking and drugs and yet he pulled it all together and poured all his personal fears into the emotion of this movie.

To see Chaplins own daughter playing the part of her grandmother was emotional enought but, Downey became Chaplin and translates us into another time and space.
