Dr. (Theodore Geisel) Seuss's story of a mean-spirited creature who discovers the real meaning of the holiday was a lovely story to begin with. But director Chuck Jones's contribution made the story truly poignant.

During the war, the two had collaborated on a series of animated shorts for service men featuring Private Snafu. Afterward, Jones returned to directing those wonderful animated shorts from Warner Brothers and Seuss went on to write a score of children's books. Their reunion produced this seamless blend of heartfelt sentiment refracted through the lens of a Looney Tunes sensibility.

We ordered this set to use outdoors on a large sheet screen for a family halloween party...it was great. It was our year of the "Mummy"...everyone had a partner and one was the wrapper and one the wrappe to be covered in toilet paper...pre-movie festitivies while the movie was getting set up...

The movie arrived promptly and in excellent condition. It's a great addition to a family dvd library. Made by the same company that produced 'Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer' using the same technique. Great voice work by Phyllis Diller and Boris Karloff. Perfect for watching at Halloween.

Another of my childhood favorite monsters - Frankenstein's monster. I have to admit I always thought it was the monster that was Frankenstein back in those days. I thought this was a better movie than the Mummy with Karloff that I reviewed earlier. At least in this one the monster was prevalent and there was lots of arms outstreched, slow deliberate strides and that unique grunting that characterized all Frankenstein movies. In all honesty I enjoyed the movie for the classic it was; however I would recommend "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" over this the original.
