Good start, OK middle, awful ending. Some amateurish acting, hokey dialogue, gratuitous nudity, distasteful killings. Way below Argento's best work, ditto for his daughter, who is mediocre in the lead role. The extra features are interesting, though.

"The Stendhal Syndrome" is a dark, brilliant, unnerving, and beautiful excursion into the mind of a policewoman who is brutally assaulted. Clearly, this is one of Dario Argento's masterworks, aided by a haunting score by the talented Ennio Morricone.

Asia Argento, who plays the heroine, becomes unhinged by her violation. She was not a well woman to begin with, suffering fom a syndrome named after the writer Stendhal that causes her to faint when she views certain works of art that overwhelm her.

Boarding Gate

"Boarding Gate" is an initially verbose French crime drama that, for the first half at least, threatens to talk itself and us to a standstill. Luckily, at about the midway point, the pacing picks up considerably and it turns into a stylish, gripping thriller.

The film chronicles the stormy relationship between an unscrupulous businessman and the ex-mistress he routinely pimps out to his clients. However, it's only after she's lured into committing murder and forced to go on the lam to Hong Kong that the movie becomes an intriguing, multi-layered look at infidelity and betrayal.

Land of the Dead (Unrated Director's Cut) [Blu-ray]

This is a great zombie film that stands the critical test as it is, but toss in Simon Baker's (TV's Mentalist)tongue-in-cheek hero, Asia Argento, who is absolutely hot in everything she does, and George Romero, and how in the world can you go wrong. Then to top it all off, the Blu-Ray version is better than watching it at the theater.

I wondered when I got it if I had wasted my money since I already had it on regular DVD. Then, wow, I started the Blu-Ray and knew it was worth even twice the price.
