I rented this video through amazon when I first started to get into bollywood a year ago. I promptly bought the disk, as this movie combines great acting with good comedy and a good plot. The battle of the sexes song, Baat Meri Suniye to Zara, is hilarious. Definitely a movie to see if you're wanting to look into the bollywood film experience.

My father asked me to watch this film. Being away from India, I miss watching Indian films and have a good run of late watching all of Ranbir Kapoor films and loving them. I'm a fan of Amitabh Bachchan, who isn't, you're wondering. I saw Paa on Dvd last night and I must say the film is painfully written and directed.


Despite very good acting performances from the father and son duo, the film has absolutely no scope because the story is so poor. The editing is so choppy and the way scenes are cut, makes the film look like rather ill prepared.

Dostana (2008) DVD (Bollywood Movie / Indian Cinema / Hindi Film)

Mumbai crash-lands in Miami, and voilà, Bollywood meets 'The Birdcage.' The two go together like sun and sand. The reason it didn't happen sooner is because same-sex romance was a taboo movie topic in India--until 'Dostana' came along, that is. The film isn't preachy about tolerance in the least, but rather, it's a rollicking good time, right from the get-go. Maybe that's why audiences embraced the theme despite its touchiness and turned out in droves.

The film opens with Bollywood's favorite eye candy, John Abraham, emerging from the ocean Ursula Andress-style--a shimmering Adonis in tight swim trunks.

This is a hard one to review. For one thing I couldnt get through it and bounced between fast forwards to see if it shifted.
It depicts years from 1951 onwards with the movie quality of the day for effect. So the film texture and colour emulates the old and there are lots of little breaks in movement if someone is running for instance. They really achieved the look of the times but I found it alienated me fro the emotion presented. I'm not an arthouse fan but filmies may well find a lot to like in this movie.
